Legalism?

What was legalism?

After the Warring states period Emperor Qin (pronounced Chin) wanted to have complete order and power.  He made strict laws and a large "police" force.   Qin also created a widespread coinage and other policies that soon became Legalistic.   Legalism was created in the 400's B.C  and it's widespread use lasted for over 200 years!  Legalism was created or founded by Shang Yang.  Another important philosopher was Han-Fiezi.  In legalism the smallest mistakes meant punishment.  Schools were silent in ordered rows.   If ANYTHING was incorrect, not perfect or anything extra ordinary it was punishable.   Legalism also believed in letting your about destroy himself.   This military tactic was similar but different to Taoist beliefs.  Legalism spread and eventually become a government (emperor with all power), Religion (strict, no worshiping) and life style (strict laws and rules lots of punishments).   This belief system eventually became military tactics and in present day United States it is required that every military officer reads the teach's of Han-Fiezi.

Short Answer- Legalism is a system of beliefs and laws.
